Mixed results at Silverstone – now on to Hungaroring
Silverstone brought us some mixed results. I qualified P3, my highest qualifying position in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and I felt that we had a real opportunity not only to get on the podium, but perhaps even take my first win. The car was really fast and I felt very confident going into the race. The main photo shows us on the grid, Team Principal Alex Fach kneeling by the car and my mechanic Ramon looking nervous before the race!
Unfortunately in race set-up the car lacked balance and both myself and my team mate Matt Campbell (who started P6) had poor pace. I finished P5 and Matt was P7. It was a real battle just to hang on to P5 and it was a hard 13 laps. I was very disappointed afterwards, I desperately wanted to be on the overall podium at my home race. The team had worked so hard all weekend, and I wanted to reward them with a great result too.
You’ll see from the photos that I was P2 Rookie and it was cool to receive the Trophy from Herbie Blash of the FIA, a legend of the sport. Sorry, I look a bit grumpy!
It was great to have so many of my sponsors and their guests at Silverstone over the Grand Prix weekend from 9 Group, eve, LA Micro, Workflow, Penguin London and Whittlebury Hall. They were really enthusiastic as were all the British fans around the circuit. It’s a great feeling to race in front of your home crowd. Thank you all for your support.
So, moving on, in the Rookie Standings I’m P3 and in the overall standings P7 going into Round 6 in Hungary this weekend. We had a successful test in Hungary in April, but the conditions will be very different as Hungary is traditionally the hottest race of the season. I like the circuit and hope that we can get a great result this weekend.
