The Championship battle is heating up…
There are just two meetings and four rounds of the 2014 Porsche Carrera Cup GB left to run and the title battle is on. I’m still leading the championship, but I’m determined not to let the pressure get to me. Even though we’re fighting hard on track, Michael and I are good mates and we have a great relationship.
Rockingham was a strange weekend for me as I struggled for pace, yet I finished 2nd in both races, so it wasn’t too bad, although it’s always disappointing not to be on the top step of the podium. Following Michael’s problem in race two I extended my championship lead to 14 points although it’s not the way I would have liked to have done it.
The next round is at Silverstone National Circuit 27/28 September. I’ve raced a few times there and have a decent record, which I hope we can continue. We’ve been really consistent all year – I haven’t finished off the podium. This great consistency is due to the hard work and dedication of the guys at Redline Racing, especially my mechanic Alan. I’m proud to be part of such a great team.
I don’t want to focus on points, although at this stage I guess it’s inevitable. I’d love to take the title in style, so I’ll be going all out for wins in the remaining races. I’m not going to let the pressure of being in the lead in the standings affect my driving.
I’m looking forward to seeing lots of supporters at Silverstone. Thanks for all the messages, it’s great to have you on board and I hope we have an exciting end to the season.
