A step into the unknown as we head to Mexico!
We head to Mexico for the final two rounds of the Porsche Supercup season this weekend (27-29 October) and it’s a new experience, as the Porsche Supercup Championship has never raced at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez before.
It was great to see a photo of my car being loaded onto the Boeing 747-400 at Stuttgart for the journey via New York to Mexico City. At least I know my car will be there when I arrive! What a huge logistical operation, transporting 32 race cars plus another 65 tons of equipment!
As most of the drivers will not have driven the circuit before, we will need to learn quickly as we only have the usual 45 minute practice session on Friday. It’s my first visit to Mexico and I honestly don’t know what to expect, but that makes it even more exciting. I hope to get a track walk before practice to get a closer look at the condition of the tarmac including the bumps and kerbs. No amount of video or TV views can really prepare you for the actual track conditions.
The times of the sessions this weekend are:
Friday 27th – Practice 16:00 – 16:45 (UK time 22:00 – 22:45)
Saturday 28th – Qualifying 11:20 – 11:50 (UK time 17:20 – 17:50)
Saturday 28th – Race 1 15:10 – 15:45 (UK time 21:10 – 21:45)
Sunday 29th – Race 2 10:30 – 11:05 (UK time 16:30 – 17:05)
Live TV coverage (UK timings):
Saturday 28th – Race 1 – 20:55 – 22:00 Sky Sports 1
Sunday 29th – Race 2 – 16:15 – 17:15 Sky Sports 2, Eurosport 1 International
I’ll be flat out trying to get a great result to end the season on a high for my race team Fach Auto Tech and my loyal sponsors, 9, eve, LA Micro, Workflow, Penguin London, Everyone Active, Fortitude Fitness, Whittlebury Hall and Flying Saucer.
Thanks to all of you who have sent messages of support, it’s always great to hear from you.
Wish me luck!
