Season ends at Brands Hatch GP Circuit
The final two rounds of the 2015 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season were held at Brands Hatch GP Circuit 10/11 October.
This time last year I had one of my best race weekends ever as we wrapped up the championship title and set a new lap record on my first visit to the GP circuit. This year, the drivers’ championship had already been decided at Silverstone, but my aim was to try to secure second place and to help Team Parker Racing win the team championship.
In Race One I’d managed to overtake Michael Meadows (my competition for 2nd in the championship), but on the final lap, at the fastest part of the circuit, I had a tyre blow-out and crashed heavily into the barrier. I was fine, however the car was very badly damaged and it took a huge effort from all the Team Parker Racing guys to get it rebuilt for the second race. The team, as always, did an amazing job.
I got a good start in Race Two and was in third when I was hit off the track, finally rejoining in ninth where I finished, with the car even more damaged. After two races like that I was delighted to end the season in third place overall in the championship.
I’ve enjoyed my two years as the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar. As the youngest driver on the grid, racing against much older and far more experienced drivers I have learned a great deal. Of course, winning the title in my first year and setting many records along the way was the highlight. Other special races to remember from the last two seasons are my first win at Donington in the wet, the amazing support race at Le Mans and this year’s support race to the WEC at Spa Francorchamps.
Thank you to Porsche Motorsport GB for the two year scholarship and huge thanks must go to all my loyal sponsor partners; Nine Group, Zenith Intelligent Vehicle Solutions, Porsche Retail Group, Close Brothers Leasing, Workflow Group, LA Connect, Swissvax, Melbek, Gradtel, Flying Saucer, Everyone Active and Whittlebury Hall. It’s been great to see so many of you and your guests at race meetings.
Team Parker Racing have worked incredibly hard this year and we have had some challenges to overcome in a hard season with more than our fair share of bad luck. Thank you to all the team for their amazing commitment and support, especially Stuart Parker, Jules Westwood, Brad Fincham and Mark O’Neill.
Everyone is asking what we’ll be racing in 2016. We have a number of really exciting options for 2016 and as soon as our plans are clear we’ll be able to let everyone know. Watch this space!
Finally, to all my subscribers and motorsport fans I have had the privilege to meet, thank you for all your amazing support, tweets and messages as well as all the support at the race meetings. The UK has passionate and knowledgeable motorsport fans and it has been a great pleasure to talk to so many of you in the paddock.
See you again soon.
