Red Bull Ring with Team 75 Bernhard!

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be racing in Porsche Carrera Cup Germany at the Red Bull Ring in Austria next week, 31 July to 2 August with Team75 Bernhard. This opportunity has come up because Pepe Massot, the driver of car number 18 has a back injury and is unable to race.

Here’s the press release from Team 75 Bernhard issued today:

Josh Webster to race with KÜS Team75 Bernhard in round 10 of German Porsche Carrera Cup

After nine of 17 rounds the German Porsche Carrera Cup is taking a short summer break. The KÜS Team75 Bernhard struggled with some bad luck in the first two rounds of the season but bounced back and scored a third place at the Lausitzring followed by a double victory at the Norisring and a third place in the last race in Zandvoort.

Pepe Massot, who races alongside Nicki Thiim for the German team, had to finish his race weekend in the Netherlands earlier than planned. The young Spaniard sustained back injuries in an accident last year in England which he still suffers from and which made it impossible for him to race. The team had to withdraw his car from the weekend and Pepe is now under medical treatment.

For the next race at the Red Bull Ring in Austria from 31 July to 2 August, reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Josh Webster will take his seat in the #18 Porsche, providing him with a development opportunity in an up and coming team that draws on over 40 years of motorsport experience and to learn from team advisor and Porsche LMP1 factory driver Timo Bernhard, who came up through the ranks of the Porsche school himself to become one of the most successful sports car drivers worldwide.

In his first year racing in the Porsche Carrera Cup the Englishman broke multiple records on the way to becoming the youngest ever winner of the championship and the first Porsche Scholar to win the title in their inaugural year. He was on the podium in all 19 races last season and with one victory and five podiums he currently sits second in this years’ Championship.

“Josh has been in touch a while ago and is interested in working with us”, said Timo. When it turned out that Pepe had to take a break it was a no brainer to work with him. Josh knows the cup and the cars and we are very happy to have found somebody like him who has experience and some remarkable results under his belt at his young age. He has never been to the Red Bull Ring before so he will be using this race weekend purely to learn as much as possible.

We hope that Pepe will make a good recovery and that he’s back to racing with us at Oschersleben, the priority at the moment however is his full recovery.”

“It’s all about gaining experience”, Webster commented. “I don’t have any expectations regarding pace as I haven’t ever been to the circuit before but I am tremendously excited about the opportunity of working with Team75 Bernhard and driving alongside Nicki Thiim”.

It’s great to have the chance to experience the German Carrera Cup Championship, learn the Red Bull Ring circuit and to work with Timo Bernhard and Nicki Thiim, both legends in Porsche racing – I feel very lucky indeed to have this opportunity.

Many thanks to my manager Brad Fincham of Define Performance for all his work behind the scenes to make this happen.

Finally, I’d like to wish Pepe the very best for his recovery. Get well soon mate and I promise to do my best to look after the car!
