Porsche Supercup at the British Grand Prix

Porsche Supercup at the British Grand Prix!

I’m so excited to have the opportunity to race in Porsche Supercup at the British Grand Prix this weekend!

I feel very fortunate to be able to race in front of my home crowd and I have to say a huge thank you to Porsche Carrera Cup GB and the Scholarship for giving me this amazing opportunity. I’m so grateful. Silverstone is a very special place and it’s such an honour to be able to race on the GP weekend.

As a British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) Rising Star I love to race at Silverstone as it’s the home of British Motorsport and the BRDC so I feel part of the fabric of the circuit. The amazing fans are really knowledgeable and love their motorsport. There are so many Union Flags around the circuit, I can’t describe how it makes the British drivers feel, it’s a real boost.

It’s a wonderful circuit to drive, one of the longest on the calendar at 3.66 miles, with 18 corners. It’s a challenge to get the perfect qualifying lap as it’s easy to make a small mistake and ruin your lap so it’s vital to concentrate 100% on nailing every corner whilst dealing with traffic which can be a problem in putting together the perfect lap. You can’t relax anywhere on this lap!

My favourite parts of the track are:

Becketts – an amazing series of curves where you’re just flying and changing direction several times. An amazing feeling.

Hangar Straight into Stowe – high speed down the straight at 155-160 mph, braking for Stowe and chucking the car into the corner is a big thrill.

Brooklands/Luffield – I love coming into the complex, knowing that the BRDC Grandstand and Clubhouse is to my right, and seeing the Luffield Grandstands full of fans, where I sat with my family as a child dreaming of racing at the British Grand Prix, never imagining that I really would get the chance one day.

Have a listen to my interview with Nigel Bidmead:

Our timetable is:
Friday – 16.45 Free Practice
Saturday – 11.25 Qualifying
Sunday – 10.45 Race ( 13 laps)

I’ll try to keep twitter @joshjwebster updated during the weekend.

If you’re going to be at the Grand Prix, please give me a wave and if you can, come and say hi in the Porsche Paddock. I’ll be in the trademark purple and white car, running with my UK team, Team Parker Racing but running as a guest entry so my race number is 43. I’ll have a union flag on my side window panel!

A special mention to my sponsor partners attending the Grand Prix – Nine Group, Zenith Vehicle Solutions, Porsche Retail Group and Close Brothers Leasing who are there for the weekend. Also thanks to Whittlebury Hall for looking after us this weekend.

Thank you for all your support, tweets and messages, keep them coming! It really means a lot to have such great support and you know that I’ll be giving it 100% to get a great result. I hope to see some of you there. Wish me luck!

Whatever you’re doing this weekend I hope you have a wonderful time.
