Porsche Carrera Cup GB season ends on a high!
Well that was an awesome end to the race season! Our aim was to secure second place in the Championship this weekend and we did it!
We took pole position in wet qualifying on the Brands Hatch GP Circuit on Saturday, scoring two vital points to put me in second place by just one point going into race day on Sunday.
The weather, as expected, played a part, making the choice of tyres difficult throughout the weekend. There was a shower just before race 1 so that made the choice of wet tyres easier. I led the race from the start, but there were several safety cars, so I could never relax leading the race! I was so happy to take the win, and that gave me a 5 point margin for second place over George Gamble going into the final race.
A post race penalty for another driver elevated George from 3rd to 2nd in race one, so the gap reduced to just 3 points. Due to the reverse grid, I was starting 5th and George 4th. I overtook one car to take 4th place then stuck behind George, knowing that I just needed to finish behind him to secure 2nd place in the Championship.
It’s 5 years since I won the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship at Brands Hatch GP in my first year with Porsche. I’ve really enjoyed my return to the series this year, even though I didn’t come into the Championship until the 3rd round, so it was always going to be a big ask to be a contender. I’m so grateful to Stuart Parker of Team Parker Racing for his phone call on my way to work as the team’s driver coach at Donington which gave me the opportunity to race this year!
Team Parker Racing have done an amazing job this year, working so hard to improve and develop throughout the year. I’m proud to be a member of the team not only as a driver but also as the team driver coach and we have had huge success with Karl Leonard now the Pro-Am Champion and Justin Sherwood the new Am Champion! We have some celebrating to do at the Awards Evening on the 9th November!
Thank you to my loyal sponsor partners, 9 Group, Calteq, Whittlebury Hall and Penguin London for their support and to everyone who has sent messages during the year.
I hope we’ll be back on the grid for a full season in 2020 with a serious challenge for the Championship title!
