Rounds 7 & 8 Snetterton

Rounds 7 and 8 of the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship were held at Norfolk's Snetterton race circuit over the weekend of 31 July and 1 August.

In testing on Friday, Josh's engine had a problem which left him down on power on the straights; particularly damaging at a fast circuit like Snetterton. The team worked hard all day to identify the fault to no avail, and worked late on Friday night to replace many parts of the fuel system, which was suspected to be the problem.

Qualifying 1 on Saturday was wet so the power issue couldn't be tested. Josh was third quickest until a red flag stopped the session, and he couldn't get another run as the track dried due to traffic, leaving him 6th.

In the second qualifying session he was on pole until three laps from the end of the session when on a drying track his teammates and several other drivers pitted for slick tyres, but had no time to change Josh's tyres and he had to stay on wets, tumbling from pole to 7th at the end of the session.

In race 1 on Sunday, with the track dry, it was obvious that the engine problem hadn't been resolved as Josh had reduced power on the straights. He was struggling to hold his position, and was lucky to finish 4th, it could have been a lot worse!

The Fortec team worked hard between races to identify the problem, and worked on the car right up to the start of the race. Unfortunately the problem was still there and Josh struggled and battled to hold his position.

Starting 7th, he finished 7th, and was grateful for the points. The problem with the car is showing on the data very clearly as a loss of power, but the cause is still a mystery. The team will be working on the issue before the next test.

Although Josh was disappointed with the frustrations of the weekend, the good news is that he has moved into 3rd place in the championship with four more races to go.

Josh was pleased to welcome guests from Admiral Voice & Data on Saturday and Nine Telecom and Flying Saucer Marketing on Sunday. Guests had a behind the scenes tour and presentation with Josh and Fortec Team Manager Steve Lynch in the team garage.

Josh was disappointed not to be able to fight for wins or podiums but guests were able to see the team in action as they worked very hard to rectify the elusive fault and they were very enthusiastic in their support during the races!
