Great weekend with TOP 4 finish in the Mobil 1 Porsche Supercup at the British GP!

What a weekend! Racing in the Porsche Supercup race at the British Grand Prix, Silverstone was a fantastic experience in itself, but to qualify 5th and finish the race 4th was a dream result.

Racing in the distinctive yellow, white and black livery of the famous German Project 1 race team, the car looked great with all my sponsor partners logos. My first race back in a Porsche this season was a step into the unknown, but working with the Project 1 team gave me further confidence to push myself throughout the weekend.

Racing at the British Grand Prix is an awesome experience for any British driver and the support from the fans was amazing. It’s just brilliant to see such a great turnout.

Qualifying on Saturday was dry and I managed to set the 5th quickest time on my second set of tyres. The car felt great and it was nice qualifying amongst the Supercup regulars and race winners. I was absolutely delighted to qualify 5th and top British driver. My team mate Nick Yelloly qualified 6th to make it an all Project 1 third row on the grid.

On race day, with mixed weather conditions forecast, the action started even before the race. Going to the grid in the dry on slick tyres, rain fell heavily on the green flag lap. The Race Director Charlie Whiting called a delayed start so that the teams could get onto the grid to change to wet tyres. The rain intensified, so the race started behind the Safety Car.

The conditions weren’t great but the racing was close and I enjoyed battling with the other drivers throughout the race. I had closed the gap to Supercup front-runner Matteo Cairoli and I was challenging for 3rd place right to the chequered flag.

With Nick finishing in 5th, the Project 1 cars had great exposure and I was proud of my performance, coming home as the first placed British driver at my home race.

The team are not entered for the full Porsche Supercup championship this year, we were guest entries, so it was particularly satisfying for the team to have such a great result for both drivers on their first outing of the season.

Huge thanks to all the brilliant team at Project 1, Brad Fincham of Define Performance and my loyal sponsor partners, many of whom were there to enjoy the race weekend; Zenith Intelligent Vehicle Solutions, Nine Group, LA Micro UK, Workflow, Close Brothers Leasing, Whittlebury Hall, Penguin London, Flying Saucer Creative and the British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC).

Finally thank you to my fans and supporters for the messages of encouragement and congratulations – it is great to have so much support, not just from the UK but from around the world too. It’s always great to hear from you by e-mail, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Until next time…
